You taught me the value of waking up early. There’s
something special about being the first person up, when the house is all quiet,
and having time to hear your own thoughts. It’s the perfect time to send time
in the Word and prayer. As Proverbs 8:17 says, “I love them that love me; and
those that seek me early shall find me.”
My love of sleeping keeps me from doing it often, but I
always appreciate when I rise early. When writing this poem, I was thinking
about how lovely it is to watch the world wake up around you. I find when I
wake up early, that’s usually where I am when the weather is fair. It’s so nice
to sit on the porch before the sun is high and blinding, listening to the birds
and watching the sun rise over the woods. I decided to compare that experience to
a song, as I’m sure you can see through the metaphors.
Thank you for showing me early mornings can be beautiful
instead of painful. I love when we get to sit together with a cup of tea and enjoy the quiet together. Maybe this will inspire you to rise early more often, or to
take time to pause and listen to the early morning song.
I love you.
Rising one by one in a glorious symphony
The air is cool and prickles my skin
The wind’s soft breath lifts the branches and leaves
The warm porcelain of my coffee mug blankets my fingers
I observe with the robins as my company
Up high on my porch I can see my world
It wakefully begins its arrangement
The sun creeps over the trees, the world crescendos into
light
First it’s slow, and then suddenly, the earth is transformed
