Dance For Me

Lifting. Jumping. Flying. Soaring.
The elegance of a lady, the agility of a cat.
You leap and you spin and you twirl.
Dance for me, ballerina.
I see joy in your face.
Graceful. Beautiful. Determined. Strong.

Dear Mama,

I wrote this poem a short time after Hannah’s last recital with her new dance studio. I was moved and inspired by the dancing and the older dancers, specifically. All of these beautiful girls were pouring their hearts out through their movements, conveying the love of God to the audience with their craft. You could see the fierce determination and passion in their faces, their strength practically radiating from the stage. I got tired of ballet when I was little, but whenever I see a recital, I can never understand why.

I thought it appropriate to include this poem because I know you feel the same way about watching them dance as I do. I know you and I share a hope that Hannah will continue to be passionate about ballet and grow up to be one of those skilled young women flying across the stage. She loves it now, and hopefully she will always get the same joy out of it.

This is a simple poem that I tried to write freely, just letting it flow. It’s one of my favorites that I have written. I hope that it brings you back to that night and you see the beautiful images that I did when I was writing it.
